What to expect on Race Day & FAQ's
The 2024 Burson Rock2Ramp Ocean Swim is held at Point Roadknight Beach on the 28 December each year. The below information has been put together to help you with what to expect on race day and also frequently asked questions (FAQ's).
Getting here:
Point Roadknight Beach is located past the Anglesea Main Beach and Anglesea SLSC if heading west along the Great Ocean Road. When travelling along Great Ocean Road turn left at Eighth Avenue and this will lead you to the beach. We will have directional signage in place on the day directing you where you need to go. If you are coming from Melbourne please remember to allow extra time considering the roadworks planned in and around Melbourne. In addition if it is forecast to be a good day the Surf Coast will be busy with holiday makers and those visiting for the day.
Parking:
Dependent on the time you arrive and the weather that day, there may be parking challenges, so please allow plenty of time to find a park. Please respect local residents and not park over their driveways. Also please be aware of any parking signs and do not park on yellow lines.
Registration:
Whether you have pre-entered (strongly recommended) or plan on entering on the day please head to the registration tents located in the Anglesea Motor Yacht Club boat car park (refer to site map). For pre-entries you will need to collect your swim cap, timing band and t-shirt. If entering on the day, you will be able to register and be issued with a swim cap, timing band and t-shirt. Please note that we cannot guarantee to the correct size for on-day/late entries.
If you are swimming in more than one event, you will need to collect two swim caps and change your cap for each swim. Note you will use the same timing band for both swims, so please hold onto it after your first swim.
Please also remember that you can only pick up your own registration, not someone else's sorry. This is due to safety reasons.
Registration opens at 8am and closes at 12.30pm.
What can I do whilst waiting for my swim or afterwards?
Two of our sponsors will have stalls on the beach near the finish area. These will be:
-
Move Beyond - The Race Director strongly recommends their massage's.
-
Great Ocean Wetsuits - Check out their range of open water swimming wetsuits.
If you need some refreshments, head up to the yacht club where there will be a BBQ for a post swim re-fuelling, the coffee van or hydrate with thanks to our friends from Barwon Water.
Otherwise you can simply enjoy the amazing coastline we have and watch/support other swimmers. Please remember to be sun safe and remember the safest place to swim, when you are not in the race, is between the Red & Yellow Flags.
Start Times, Courses & Starting Locations
Event start times can be found by clicking here. No matter what swim you are in it is strongly recommended that you get to the start line area at least 15 minutes prior to your swim wave time. This will greatly assist our starting marshall's and ensure that you don't miss the swimmer briefing for your wave or your race.
There are different race starting locations depending on what event you are doing, as follows:
-
The Kids Dash events will commence on the southern side of the fine line area.
-
The 600m and 1.2km events will commence from the southern side of Soapy's Rock (the 'Rock' or Rock2Ramp). Soapy's rock is located to the north/east of Point Roadknight Beach and is a 10-15 minute walk along the beach. Please allow extra time to get to the start line.
Refer to the swim course map for details about each event. Please note that courses may change on the day subject to conditions. The Kids Dash course will be designed on the day based on the conditions present. All swimmers will be briefed on the course prior to starting.
Finishing, Presentations and Results
All events finish through the finishing arch and chute. Here you will be able to have a drink, grab a banana and have a rest and hopefully reflect on a great swim. We will have medical personnel on standby should you need assistance.
Those who have placed first, second and third are requested to proceed to the presentation area in a timely manner after finishing the race. We base our results on the timing of the event, so presentations will occur once our timing personnel have confirmed the results. The place getters for the Surf'n'Turf category and the winner of the Club Challenge will be announced after all events have concluded.
Results will be available on our website here shortly after each event.
